ETD10.180 - Ring Shear Tester

for shear testing on circular samples

The circular ring shear tester ETD10.180 is a laboratory test device for determining the shear strength and residual shear strength of cohesive and non-cohesive specimens.
Similar to a direct shear tester, the sample is installed in a shear box consisting of a lower and upper part but this shear box has an annular geometry. After a consolidation phase, the sample is sheared by rotating the lower shear box around the central axis.

Characteristics:

  • intuitive operation and easy handling with 4,3” touch screen with separate function keys and haptics
  • precision electromechanical drive for controlled normal stress generation
  • precision electromechanical drive for controlled torsional / shear stress generation
  • rugged and functional construction, all surfaces in contact with the sample and all water-swept parts of the shear device are made of stainless steel, incl. porous discs
  • testing with load independent shear rates
  • testing with constant volume conditions / dilatancy-free testing
  • measurement of a external analog signal (e.g. pore pressure sensor)
  • serial interface for PC-controlled testing with data logging using a standard-PC with the software GeoDESC

  • Sensor 10 kN for load measurement
  • Sensor for torque measurement
